Characteristics of toddlers

Here are the characteristics of a toddler, we call the social, mental and physical characteristics.

Social characteristics:

Jealousy:

Jealous behavior occurs in many toddlers. They are most often jealous of a new brother or sister. It is best for parents or guardians to respond calmly to this. There’s no point in getting angry. It is important that the toddler feels that they are loved. That he is very important to them.

Cleanliness:

Most children are toilet trained during the day at around two and a half years old. At night they still wear a diaper. Only when the toddler understands what the intention is can you help them become toilet trained. He must also be able to control the sphincter muscles of the bladder and anus. But above all, the child has to want it himself.

Mental Characteristics:

Language:

The toddler’s language development happens in a certain order. The pace at which a child learns to talk varies.
1. Say one-word sentences.2. Saying two- or three-word sentences.3. Say complete sentences

Stubbornness period:

When a toddler is about 2.5 years old, he starts to discover his own will. By using the word I, he clearly shows that he wants something. This is often a difficult period for parents or caregivers. The toddler says no to everything in advance. We call this toddler puberty.

Fear:

Toddlers gain many new experiences and they have a big imagination. This can make them anxious. For example, they may be afraid of the dark, of strange people or strange surroundings. As a result, they sometimes do not dare to sleep, go to the doctor or playgroup.

Lying:

A toddler sometimes yelps. This is part of his development. The parents or guardians should not pay too much attention to it. It is wise to show that you know that what the toddler says is not entirely true. You can do this, for example, by making a joke about it. This allows the toddler to learn to recognize what is true and what is fictional.

Physical development:

The development of the teeth:

The baby teeth are complete when the toddler is about three years old. People often think that baby teeth are not that important because the child still has to change teeth. This is not true. Damage to baby teeth can also affect permanent teeth.

Motor development:

Motor skills also develop rapidly during toddlerhood. The first uncertain steps have already been taken in babyhood. A toddler can already walk independently. Gross motor skills in particular are now being developed. These are the big moves.
