Being over-organized

Being organized is a given for some and not for others. Sometimes you can learn a certain way of working that helps you be more organized. After all, it can help you in the work process. Someone who is not naturally organized may benefit from giving things a little more structure. But you can also go too far in being organized. If not an organization, then certainly an individual who can suffer from being over-organized. Fortunately, you can control it… if you really want to!

Is the civil servant typically over-organized?

We say that the government has a hand in it, because, for example, we have to deliver something in a way that we think it should shine brightly, everyone has to pee on it and on balance we keep each other working.
Since the taxpayer pays the civil servant, we also believe that we can express that opinion. To be honest, people are indeed over-organized quite often, but we cannot always judge it. Moreover, the civil servant is the executor, so perhaps the legislator should first be scrutinized.

The individual

But it is not always about civil servants, because in addition to all kinds of agencies, people can also be individually over-organized. This may be natural, but it may also be because someone was once unable to cope due to chaos and has learned a certain structure. A structure that helps him/her to remain standing.

But being overorganized is the same as being too organized, which actually means that you have gone too far in your behavior to a greater or lesser extent. This can lead to:

  • Rigid behavior
  • Limiting creativity
  • Restriction of flexibility
  • Quick to get going
  • Suffering from suppressed anger or outbursts
  • Frustration in general

Situations…

The working atmosphere

For example, if you are over-organized, a list that you keep to do all your tasks or your files that you complete is no longer a means to an end, but the goal. A task that can normally be done later should not be done later. After all, it’s on your list for that day.
But you may also have inspiration that day to create something or a personnel problem may arise that now requires a discussion, so something with a higher priority.

There is no space in the agenda and since everyone only has so much time in a day, things get pushed around or things get postponed. This can lead to frustration, because the over-organized man or woman is left with tasks in their head.

Privately

Overorganization can also play a role in the private sphere. If you have set times for certain tasks, the slightest thing can throw things off. You can’t organize your whole life and sometimes things just happen. A technician who is scheduled and is stuck in a traffic jam and therefore does not arrive on time. Your store doesn’t have the stuff you need and you spend more time buying it from other stores or your car says figure it out. All this, while you had made such a nice plan.

If you are over-organized, this can confuse you and you should see if you can make a new schedule that still fits you and that you feel comfortable with. If you can do this, you are already one step further. But unfortunately there are also people who completely lose their way when their planning gets confused. They become frustrated, angry and can become completely paralyzed. This ultimately makes things worse.

What to do?

Can you unlearn it? sure, but you have to get out of your comfort zone. After all, you will have to let go of things that have given you apparent security. If you’re into ,lists,, get rid of them and make sure you only have on your mind what REALLY needs to be done. After all, if it is not disruptive at work or life-threatening, you could do it the next day, right?

Just doing it is easier said than done, but in fact it is what you have to do. Experience what happens if your list is not completely completed or your file is not complete today but possibly tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Do, do, do and possibly with a person you can confide in if it really gets too much. An outlet is always useful to keep you going. Someone who gets it!

Finally

Being organized can be a good thing, it can speed up and complete business. Being over-organized is too much and you have to be able to put a twist on it that makes everything livable. Sometimes alone, but often with a little help and that’s fine. Getting out of your comfort zone is not something you do easily (at least for most people), but it almost always enriches your life in the end.
