What is Teflon?

The invention of the non-stick pan is due to Roy Plunkett patenting polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) on February 4, 1941. It is a chemical compound discovered by Plunkett in 1938. The patent on the compound was awarded to Plunkett. In 1949, the first pans with a non-stick coating were introduced onto the market. A Teflon pan contains a thin layer, also called a non-stick layer. This layer is made of Teflon. Teflon is also used for more than just household purposes, but although it is still used in frying pans as recently as 2015, it has long been known that Teflon appears to be carcinogenic to animals. The chance that it is not healthy for people is therefore plausible, but research into this is progressing slowly.

On February 4, exactly 2 years after her kidnapping, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison. On appeal, her sentence was reduced to 7 years and President Jimmy Carter pardoned her 22 months later and commuted her sentence to a suspended sentence, allowing her to be released early.
