Working methodically

What will you do if you start working methodically? If you work methodically, you work according to a pre-composed plan. This plan differs from assignment to assignment, because not every assignment is the same. When drawing up a plan, one starts by looking for information that fits the problem; sometimes this may be little information, but sometimes it may be a lot. This depends on the prior knowledge you already possess.

Working methodically

After searching for information, you will make a problem statement. If you have made a good problem statement, you can describe it in one sentence, for example: What is the best way to care for Mrs. Janssen. Then you formulate the objective in a sentence that shows what you want to achieve, for example: When caring for Mrs. Janssen, we must take into account that she still does the daily things that she can do herself, because we want her to do so. be rehabilitated as quickly as possible. Once the problem definition and objective are clear, you can start designing a plan. This plan will then deal with how Mrs. Janssen should be cared for.

Once the plan has been drawn up, the plan is put into implementation, the implementation and its duration are described in the plan. The plan is the guideline for every employee who comes into contact with Mrs. Janssen. After implementation, the plan is evaluated (discussed). During the evaluation, we look at what went well and what went wrong. This information can be used to draw up a new plan or take it into account in future plans. It is also possible that even though the plan has not yet been fully implemented, an interim evaluation takes place. This is done in order to adjust the plan in small details.

Why is methodical action important?

Working according to a work plan

Working according to a work plan is important because everything is then much clearer. Working according to a work plan means that you prepare your work. Even if, for example, you work in a nursing home and you suddenly become ill, a colleague can take over the work plan, and it remains the same for the client.

An important part of working according to a work plan is organizing your time.

  • You must carefully list all activities
  • You have to consider how much time you have for it
  • And how much time you think you need for it
  • You have to know what is most important
  • And what you should do first
  • You also have to see what combinations you can make
  • A work plan must also be flexible
  • Something can always happen that you didn’t plan for

There are different types of plans:

  • A residential counselor works with a guidance plan or treatment plan
  • An activity supervisor works with an activity plan
  • A caregiver works with a care plan
  • Education works with a curriculum
  • A daycare center works with a pedagogical plan

The steps of methodical action

Cause

  • You have to deal with ‘something’ that has a reason that requires you to act

Phase 1: The preparation

Step 1: Gather information

  • Collect as much information as possible related to the cause
  • Use different sources such as the internet, books, leaflets, etc.
  • Sort and check the information found

Step 2: formulate the problem

  • Formulate the gene (problem) that needs to be worked on

Step 3: formulate objectives

  • Make the goal you want to achieve clear
  • Formulate it SMART!
    • S = specific
    • M = measurable
    • A = acceptable
    • R = realistic
    • T = time-related

Step 4: design plan

  • Indicate which activities are undertaken to achieve the goal:
    • (who, what, where, when, why and how) The 6 W’s
  • Work out the concrete steps that need to be taken to achieve the goal

Phase 2: The implementation

Step 5: Execute plan

  • Perform the activity according to the step-by-step plan

Phase 3: The evaluation

Step 6: Evaluate

  • Look back at how the steps went (steps 1 to 5)
  • Investigate whether step 3 ‘the goal’ has been achieved
