Burnt out after work? Take action!

How many people come home completely exhausted, share a meal and then hang out on the couch to watch some more television. And not so much television because of what specific things can be seen, but more because you are indeed exhausted and television is seen more as a pastime. But with a little effort this can be done differently.

Wasting time

Strictly speaking, you decide what you do with your time, but nowadays we watch television for several hours a day and assuming that the majority of the adult population works, this means that we all easily spend around 15 to 20 hours per day. wasting a week aimlessly watching television while hanging on the couch.

The fact that fatigue plays tricks on you and it is not an unwillingness but an incompetence, is true for many people. But still, with a little push you can help yourself go a long way and keep your body and mind active. And being active is not necessarily exhausting. It can all be done differently.

Action!

Yet you can get started with limited urges. To achieve this, it is a good idea to end your work differently and pick up things a little differently at home. Some examples.

Work

If you end your work with things that are still in the pipeline (content) and some executive tasks, many people are inclined to do these first the next day. Secondly, there is a good chance that it will remain in your head. Complete your executive tasks before you go home and if it is a lot, divide it up if necessary. Make sure you look at your tasks in a timely manner so as not to run out of time at the last minute, because that in turn causes stress. Working in this way ensures full concentration for your substantive tasks the next day. Moreover, your head is clear before you go home.

Accessibility

Another item has more or less crept in, but it has become so common to be available for anything after work (long live the mobile phone and the internet!). Sometimes private time is really private time and this has nothing to do with how seriously you take your work. But a good balance between work and private life also provides the boss with the best employees. It has now also been shown that the stress factor is significantly higher in people who are often busy with work after working hours.

Transition from work to private life

It is normal that you need some time to move from work to private life. Call it acclimatization, call it finding new sharpness (which many people fail to do), but after all, the point is that you don’t come home exhausted.
For some people, the travel time, especially if it is at least 15/20 minutes, is enough to leave work behind and focus on private life. The family, the sports or hobby club or any other activity. See for yourself what works best, but make good use of the time in between on the bike, in the car, on the train or on the bus.

Privately

To share

Once you are private, it is good to share some highlights with the people from your private life. It stimulates your own processing of the matters that have been discussed that day and sharing with other people also gives a feeling of solidarity. Of course, these can also be negative experiences, but they only make you feel tired and lethargic. If possible, try to process these matters on the day itself as much as possible (for example with colleagues). The positive experiences give energy and that is a pleasant start to private time.

Some people share it during the meal, but after the meal taking a walk or going outside with children, for example, and then talking about positive experiences of that day, provides a lot of energy. This also means that if you want to make an evening plan, you have to take time for business. Many people who still want to exercise do so right after eating and, apart from the limited time with a possible family, exercising immediately after eating is not good anyway. Organizing private time should actually be possible without a watch, but the question is how realistic this is. However, if you plan a little more generously, something can be delayed by fifteen minutes (for example if you are still telling something).

New

To broaden your view and get yourself off that couch based on your curiosity, doing something new is not a bad idea. It excites people when they start something new and something new can simply broaden your (world) view. Moreover, you have to concentrate extra when you start something new, which means you have to recharge. It just keeps your mind occupied in a slightly different way than at work.

To play sports

For many people, exercise is important and exercise is also essential (especially if you have a sedentary job). Sometimes exercise also works with the mind, but in a different way, and that gives a good feeling. You produce serotonin, which is then good for the mind. Just make sure you take the time between all the activities that take place after work. In a relaxed atmosphere/environment you do things more relaxed and that is important as a weapon against stress.

Finally

Also try to shape your days off with this mindset. Apart from the fact that you can last much longer, it is also much more pleasant to persevere this way.
