Men with beards: the majority of women don’t like them. Reason: such men are often closed, unreliable and dangerous. But is that so?

God is always depicted with a beard, just like his son. Suspicious individuals? In ancient Greece, philosophers wore beards. It points towards thoughtfulness and wisdom. Even now, older men with a gray beard are still treated with awe. Wrongly?

Intellectuals also like to wear beards: Umberto Eco, Luciano Paverotti, Salman Rushdie , Louis Michel, Alan Ginsberg, Sean Connery, Michael Moore. What is their secret garden, you may ask?

What drives them?

Men with beards want to distinguish themselves from others. This starts during puberty when they wait impatiently for the first chin hairs and then proudly let them grow. The teenager who shows off a fluffy beard feels like a man and will gain more self-confidence from this.

Psychological research has shown that men with beards are perceived as more masculine, more mature, more self-confident and more dominant. Oh, oh, is that possible? And some women find men with beards quite cute. Actor Sean Connery is more popular than ever among the womenfolk. How? What?

And yet the majority of the opposite sex prefers a man without a beard, although they have to admit that a man with stubble is hot. Where is the logic?
