Family party; farm party theme

When you think of a farm party, you immediately think of old-fashioned farm weddings. Large long tables with chairs on both sides and lots of food, drinks and dancing. In any case, have fun!

Invitation

Give your invitation to the farm party personally to your guests. Dressed in a farmer’s smock with a red handkerchief around your neck, you will soon have the first laughs on your hand and they will look forward to the planned party.

Furnishings/Decorations

The best location to throw a farm party is of course on a farm. Preferably in a large shed, but in the summer you can also opt for a spot in the garden between the apple trees. You can decorate the space with straw or hay bales, potato boxes, red/white checked tablecloths, nice wooden lanterns and regular vases with flowers from your own garden.

Entry

Make sure there are enough clogs and boots ready or give everyone a large red farmer’s handkerchief. You can also ask in advance that everyone comes in their own farmer’s clothes. You can combine this nicely with the election of the nicest farmer and farmer’s wife.

Games

Depending on the ages of the guests, you can choose from various games:

  • Milking cow : Milking cow; Which farmer can best milk the fake cow? Who will have the most milk in the bucket after one minute?
  • Old Dutch games: Well-known games that fit the farm festival theme are of course the various Old Dutch games, such as nail pooping, cookie eating and shuffleboard.
  • Clog dancing: Open your hips and start the clog dancing competition. Who moves the smoothest on these wooden shoes?
  • Clog race: Another way to see who can walk on the clogs the easiest is the clog race. Plot a fun route with various funny obstacles, such as one or more straw bales.
  • Sliding a beer mug: Who has the right grip on the beer mug? This time not while drinking, but during a beer mug sliding competition.
  • Rodeo bull: Depending on your budget and the ages of the guests, you can also rent a rodeo bull. Who dares?

Eat Drink:

You can serve food and drinks in style by using gingham tableware or opting for a mix of all kinds of plates, cups and glasses. Of course, there is good food at a farm festival and you should opt for a hearty meal. This includes various stews and large pieces of meat, such as chops, bacon and spareribs. A well-filled soup is also on the menu. Pea soup or farmer’s vegetable soup served with baguette and a tasty potato, Russian or beef salad. There must absolutely be enough beer and wine available. Of course, the guests should not be left dry. The beer is drunk from large beer mugs or half-liter bottles.

Hand-out gifts:

Adjust your gifts to the age of the party goers. Hand-out gifts that are suitable for all ages include: cards in Old Dutch style with a small bag of old Dutch sweets. Small clogs with a thank you card or even better a short inscription.

Remark:

If you use this theme for a family party, pay close attention to the different ages. Provide entertainment for young and old.
